Course Syllabus(For Reference Only)
In addition to covering all the topics included in AP Calculus AB, students study limits, derivatives, definite and indefinite integrals, polynomial approximations and (infinite) series. Course content focuses on students’ understanding of calculus concepts and provides experience with methods and applications. Through the use of big ideas of calculus (e.g., modeling change, approximation and limits, and analysis of functions), students are required to use definitions and theorems to build arguments and justify conclusions. The course features a multi-representational approach to calculus, with concepts, results, and problems expressed graphically, numerically, analytically, and verbally. Exploring connections among these representations builds understanding of how calculus applies limits to develop important ideas, definitions, formulas, and theorems. As a result of the increased rigor of this AP course, students are required to demonstrate advanced skills in thinking logically and intuitively while exhibiting evidence of divergent and creative thinking in mathematics. Topics are covered more in depth incomparison to the regular course and instruction is delivered at the fastest pace.
